In this video, I will walk you through how I set up Match Cut animations in Procreate Dreams. A Match Cut is a technique that utilizes similar elements and motion to create a seamless transition. And this works because it draws the viewer's attention to a connection between scenes or objects, making the cut feel smooth and intentional. It's a versatile technique that can be used for animation and video editing.
In animation, match cuts are particularly powerful because the medium allows for greater control over visuals, enabling precise alignment between frames. Match cuts can connect:
- Themes or Concepts: A child holding a toy could match-cut to an adult holding a similar object years later.
- Shapes or Objects: A spinning tire might transform into a wheel on a bicycle.
- Motion: A character's jump might transition into a bird taking flight.

Match cut process steps:
- Plan out your animation
- Set up your file
- Draw or assemble assets
- Arrange and group assets
- Keyframe the animation
- Export your animation and share with the world!
And if you use the technique and share it on social, feel free to tag me so I can see the cool animation you made. I'm @IsaiahCardonaKC on Instagram and @IsaiahCardona on YouTube.
