Hey creative enthusiasts! Today, I’m thrilled to share the latest news and updates about Procreate Dreams 2, straight from the recent announcements and behind-the-scenes updates. If you’re eagerly awaiting the new version, here’s what you need to know.

Progress and Development Timeline

The Procreate team has been busy balancing their focus between developing the exciting new features of Dreams 2 and refining their storage model. This storage update is a critical milestone—once it’s complete, we’ll get a clearer timeline for the beta release. Fingers crossed for quick progress!

They’ve also been testing the beta with iPadOS 26, which adds some design and development challenges. However, it seems unlikely that the beta will require the latest OS version, meaning it’ll probably be compatible with current iPadOS releases when it launches.

Technical Improvements

Behind the scenes, the rendering team has been working hard to enhance the overall drawing and painting experience. These behind-the-scenes improvements aim to make the app feel smoother and more responsive, closely mirroring the familiar Procreate feel we love. It’s promising to see such attention to performance and user experience.

Flipbook Animation: Collaboration & Enhancements

One of the most exciting features in Dreams 2 is the flipbook mode, and recent collaborations have provided valuable insights into its development.

Procreate invited talented artists and animators like Lisa Bardot and Alex Grigg to visit their headquarters and test the beta firsthand. Alex shared some clips showcasing his experience, which was fantastic to see.

From their feedback, the team realized that while the flipbook mode is excellent for straightforward animation, it needed some UI and UX improvements—especially for key pose animation. During this collaboration, Alex tested a live prototype that addressed these issues, introducing UI tweaks that make adjusting frame durations and rearranging frames much easier. These enhancements are a big step forward in making animation workflows more intuitive.

Thanks to the new engine powering Dreams 2, the flipbook mode now supports unlimited tracks, opening doors for complex, multi-layered animations—an exciting development for serious animators.

Timeline Improvements

The team also revealed a fresh UI update for the timeline. You’ll now be able to tweak the duration of your scenes directly within the timeline, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple menus. This change aims to streamline editing and make the process faster and more intuitive.

Advanced Export Options

Another sneak peek involves advanced export options, such as exporting transparent videos. These features will significantly expand creative possibilities, especially for professionals working on compositing or layered projects.

Stay Updated!

Procreate has set up an official page where you can explore all the upcoming features and sign up to stay informed about the beta release. I’ve included the link in the description so you can easily stay in the loop.
